Mud crab, halal atau haram? - Khunthai Penang and thai food adventure

On a bright, hungry, Sunday afternoon, me and my girlfriend are cravings for some good crab. So, mission kitorang simple untuk hari tu. We wanted some good Nipah Crab or Mud Crab because we're tired of eating flower crab.

Flower Crab or Ketam Bunga has a thinner meats. Sakit mulut and tangan kalau nak mengopek isi yang tak seberapa ni. While, Nipah crab has a thicker meat compared to the flower crab. Tapi, not all restaurants have them, and dekat pasar pun susah nak cari. Sebab ketam nipah ni hidup di kawasan paya bakau. So, if you're not living near any paya bakau, don't get your hopes high in getting these badass ketams at your local market.

For Muslims, bila diorang tengok ketam nipah ni, diorang ingat ketam ni ketam batu.

We decided to go to this one Thai Restaurant, near Teluk Kumbar based on the good reviews it has on Foursquare (8.1). It's called KhunThai Authentic Thai Restaurant. Aku tau korang pemalas nak search location, so nah, click sini je for Waze Location: https://waze.to/lr/hw0zq099dn

We ordered 3 items from the menu:

Salted Egg Nipah Crab (RM120/kg)

Pricey, tapi disebabkan craving, sebat je lah. Market price untuk live crab nipah ni around RM 40 -RM 60/kg. Tapi kena masak sendiri la ya. This one, the salted egg alone is really nice.

Claypot Prawn Glass Noodle Small (RM23)

Entah mana claypot dia pun tak tau. Its serve in a wok. Large portion eventho we took the small set, comes with 7-8 large prawns yang semuanya tersorok kat bawah noodle tu. Yang ni, tak sedap.

Chicken Feet Kerabu (RM13)

Yang ni champion. Tu je aku cakap

Cik Kak tengah melantak(RM12/kg) 😄

Overall, I'm satisfied with the place. Waiters are attentive and friendly. Clean environment, walaupun ada lalat sikit (tepi laut, nak buat camna). And I heard their tomyam is good as well. So, might try that on my next trip. Till next time guys!
